VCXC Season Wrap – CrossRoads bTeam SomewhatPrestige Ride and Party

December 7, 2016

Well hello there.
It’s been a heck of a season! With support from KazLaw Personal Injury Lawyers, Four Winds Brewing, Woven Precision Wheels and Cycles Lambert brands Maxxis, WD 40 Bike and Lezyne, we have been VERY stoked on the racing, the prizes, the courses and the radical people that have been at every event!
As you have likely heard, we lost our race venue in the last week, and the planning that had gone into it. In the wake of that, we looked into many venues, and the logistics of changing the plans. In the end, we have found it better to have well planned communication with parks and cities than to try to organize in the 11th hour as these build better long term relationships and grow the sport. Thus, it is with heavy hearts we draw the 2016 Vancouver Cyclocross Coalition season to a close a little differently than planned. Sometimes the pieces don’t fall into place – you have to come up with solutions that improve the experience for everyone and we don’t want to end on a sour note. Though we are no longer having a race, we are sure as heck having a party, and in order to keep the good times rolling, we are going to have a ride!

CrossRoad Racing B-Team SomewhatPrestige Ride
We are going for a rip. A rip in the LSCR along Fishermans to be exact. We will have 3 ride groups, A, B, C, completing 3 distances on the ride. Each group will have at least 2 ride leaders, and we will have some extra supplies for the old “just in case”. That said, we will need you to sign a waiver (attached) as well as BE PREPARED. This is an off-road ride (mostly) during a cold time of year (mostly) that requires proper preparation to prevent poor performance (most definitely). The big loop is here and will take about 3-4 hours of riding. Bring supplies. Layer up. Winter Is Coming (https://www.wunderground.com/ca/bc/upper-lynn)
*If the LSCR Valley Trail is too slick/icy, we will come back on Fishermans. The Big Loop may also change to include the climb up to Section 8 if we’re feeling feisty. We may also cut it a bit short if it’s just that darn cold.
Meetup: 9:30 AM Saturday December 10th – JJ Bean at Park and Tilford – Park & Tilford Gardens, 333 Brooksbank Ave, North Vancouver, BC V7J 3S8
Departure: 10:30 AM
If you intend to drink coffee, show up early. If you intend to get a copy of a ride plan, show up early. If you are an anarchist that doesn’t care, show up at a time in between. This establishment is going to expect us coming, but it doesn’t change the size of the space, so be aware and be ready to hang out outside if you’re not purchasing things.
We will depart on time, with or without you, to keep this party rolling!

Four Winds Brewing and VCXC Series Wrap Up Party
Where: Princeton Pub – Restaurant – 1901 Powell St, Vancouver, BC V5L 1J2
When: 7 PM-11 PM, Saturday Dec 10th
What:  We will be honouring our Series Leaders with trophies, as well as doing a series podium for our top racers. Some accolades to be given, some beers to be drunk. The Princeton Pub does allow for ACCOMPANIED MINORS to come, so our Youth category racers can come with their families and accept their awards!
We will have Four Winds Brewing on tap, and will organize for a free beer on us should you be able to attend. We will also have small snacks available, but since the Princeton is awesome, you can also buy dinner and drinks from their full menu.
We will be planning Series Podiums to begin at 8pm.
And we will hang, have some beers, and party till 11pm
And finally the fine print. If you purchased a single event entry, we will be in contact directly with you, same if you currently hold a 2016 seasons pass!
Looking forward to riding with you all.
Cheers,
matt

Mid-Season Update // Vanier Recap + Queens CX + Junkyard CX

October 6, 2016

Well that was quite a thing. 400+ registered racers, not including our youth races, graced the Vanier CX event this Sunday, making it the biggest cyclocross event in BC just after COTR cracked that record at Topaz Park. Pretty amazing stuff, and with the crew of West Coast Cycling and Trek Red Truck hosting, the venue and the crowds did not disappoint.

vcxc_queens_2016-01

Vanier CX marked the first of 3 races this October for VCXC, and next up is Queens CX in New Westminster, October 8th 2016 – this course is in the crown jewel of New West, Queens Park, and we are always excited when a community like NW rallies behind an event. Please let them know how much you love the support by getting in touch with them here: @New_Westminster and here: info@newwestcity.ca. This course is SO GOOD – and it looks to be proper CX weather for the event. Park is here: https://goo.gl/maps/cWyp3V22MwT2

Details for the race are similar to last year but as there seem to be a lot of you new folk out there, here’s a course map for reference to where team tents and parking will be, but more importantly, where the Four Winds Brewing Beer Garden will be! Beers are $5, so bring some cash, and all racers will get a beer ticket! Huge thanks to KazLaw Injury Lawyers, Four Winds Brewing, Woven Precision Handbuilts and Cycles Lambert for their support!

Registration closes on Friday night – get at it here: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/queens-cross-2016 – if you’re hunting the double header weekend, also check out Cross On The Rock’s Bear Mountain race on Monday, Thanksgiving has never been more fruitful.

While you’re on CCN, check out registration for Junkyard Cross as well (https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/sorce-junkyard-cx) – the Fifth race for VCXC’s 2016 series is new partner Daryl Evans Racing Junkyard Cross – p/b SORCE Bike Club! Details for the race are at the link, and as follows:

CX racing at it’s very best @ South Surrey Bike Park October 16th and proud to be part of the Vancouver Cyclocross Coalition Series.

We have included almost every type of terrain in the new 2 km + lap course. An uphill road start will take you onto the gravel by the water tower, through the JunkYard Cross Village and past the Red Racer Beer Garden and onto the grass. As you pass around the water reservoir you will encounter off camber hills before you plummet back onto gravel and onto the BLT trail in the forest.  Scramble up the Drop Zone, the steepest muddiest section and back onto gravel. A second pass of the beer garden, (perhaps stop in on your way by) then back into forested single track before popping out onto the road climb. Reverse direction back down the hill while on the off camber swoopy grass then back up the hill on off camber grass along the perimeter of Softball City. We’ve got it all to challenge and entertain you . . .

Don’t forget your timing chips and numbers! We hope you’re excited and we’ll see you at the races!

Season Kickoff // Fort Langley CX at Aldor Acres

August 26, 2016

CYCLOCROSS IS HERE – we are super excited to share our seasons pass as well as registration for the Fort Langley CX race at Aldor Acres. The seasons pass (here: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/series/vcxc-series) gives you 7 races for the price of 6, including our partner races DEVO Castle Cross,  West Coast Racing / Trek Red Truck Vanier Park CX, and Daryl Evans Junkyard Dog CX benefitting SORCE. But if you hate that much commitment, you can select what races you are registering for this season, or just hit the Fort Langley Classic registration here: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/fort-langley-classic-2016

As you may already know, Cycling BC has their reduced rate CX license, which is an awesome opportunity to get a UCI license that gets you to races in the States, races outside the realm of those sanctioned by your club, and any Provincial and National level races! You can see the license here: http://cyclingbc.net/membership/types-registration/

VCXC 2016 – scheming, no good, dirty cyclocross – ers.

May 17, 2016

Oh hey everyone. I bet you’ve been waiting.

MahonParkCX-SRobarts-165

So it’s deep 2016. And we are still a few good months away from “cyclocross season” – though it hasn’t stopped anyone from asking us when the races are happening or getting ready for CX. We’re amped. As you should be too. We’ve got a few new sponsors helping us out – KazLaw Injury Lawyers being a huge one – and we’ll be rolling out the information as we go. It’s our 5th year as VCXC and we are decidedly ready to make this the best year yet.

As this year marks our 5th – gifts of wood and silverware appreciated – the ever talented Justin Turcotte and Matt Sipple have put together this immense package of interviews and footage of the Vancouver Cyclocross Coalition season from last year, as well as our long-winded thoughts on the cyclocross race scene (opinions, everyone has them) and how we look to move forward!

Now that you’re hyped, you probably want to know what we’ve been putting to paper – trying very hard to keep from overlapping races with our friends of Cross On The Rock, the Interior Cyclocross series and the folks south of the border in ‘Merica (or Freedom Land).

What we can give you at this point is the dates, and locations close to accurate. As long as everything moves swimmingly. Some dates we can’t move due to land-use, so there may be some overlap with your favourite things. The world is messy, we do our best. Now open your Google Calendars and pencil in these dates:

September 4th – Surrey (TBD)

September 18th – Coquitlam

October 2nd – Vancouver

October 8th – New West

October 23rd – TBD

November 12th – Aldergrove

December 3rd – New Venue tentative – Now with Afterparty!

We are working hard to bring you something awesome this year, and we are looking forward to an incredible season!

And if you’re feeling particularly excited, check out the VCXC mugs! We are putting all the funds towards a trailer so we can be as cool as Escape Velocity! http://vcxc.bigcartel.com/product/vcxc-enamel-mug

Cheers!

DOUBLE HEADER CYCLOCROSS WEEKEND // Rodeo CX and Vanier Park Classic October 3/4

September 24, 2015

Thank you all for making Foreshore CX a great success. Amazing turnout and a beautiful day in the sand pits really made it one for the books. As you may know, we need your support with the City of Burnaby, letting them know you love the events and that bike races and events like this are an integral part of the community. Feel free to contact them here, encouraging words help.

As you may know, we had some challenges with this huge turnout for our first races, so Registration will be a little different next weekend. If you are not racing the first race, please consider registering after 10:30, go out and get your pre-laps done and see us after the first race heads off.

Pre usual, results are posted here. Also, series results are live! We are assigning points, giving you callups and will have some PRETTY COOL PRIZES come the end of race season. Like I mentioned last time, it’s best 6/7 races!

Our Gallery is also updated – anything that goes up on the VCXC Facebook page will get reposted in the gallery!

Many of you have heard we ran into a bit of rescheduling for our October 3rd race, Confederation Park Dubbel. It was a great looking venue, but it turns out Burnaby Parks has a bit of an issue with us racing on it in the 11th hour. So, presented for your benefit, with much last-minute work by Ben Smith of Glotman-Simpson Cycling, Paul McCloskey and James Birkenbuel, we have Rodeo CX at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition centre! Registration is live here: https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/cloverdale-rodeo-cx
